1. What we collect
When you use Aperture22 we collect:
- Account information — email address, password hash, and optional profile details you provide.
- Photos you upload — images sent to the analysis engine. These are processed and not stored permanently unless you save them to your gallery.
- Usage data — pages visited, features used, and anonymised performance metrics to help us improve the product.
- Planner content — trip plans, notes, and GPS data you create and save.
2. How we use your data
We use your data to:
- Provide and improve the Aperture22 service
- Analyse photos and generate coaching feedback
- Generate and store your safari plans
- Send transactional emails (password reset, account notices)
- Understand how the product is used so we can make it better
We do not sell your data to third parties.
3. Third-party services
Aperture22 uses the following third-party services to operate:
AI Analysis & Coaching:
- Anthropic (Claude Haiku) — Image coaching synthesis and safari plan generation
- Google Cloud (Gemini + Vision API) — Image analysis, subject detection, scene labels, landmark identification, dominant colour analysis, and content safety screening
- OpenAI (GPT-4o-mini) — Companion chat assistant and AI image generation for journal entries
- xAI (Grok) — Plan refinement
Media Generation:
- Runway — AI video generation for journal entries
Hosting & Infrastructure:
- Cloudflare — Web hosting (Pages), serverless compute (Workers), database (D1), image storage (R2), and email routing
Maps & Location:
- OpenStreetMap — Map tile imagery
- Nominatim — Address and location geocoding
- Leaflet — Interactive map rendering (client-side)
- Google Maps — Navigation links in safari plans
Photos sent for AI analysis are processed by Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI subject to their respective data handling policies. Images are transmitted securely via HTTPS and are not used to train third-party AI models. Aperture22 stores your images in Cloudflare R2 storage and does not share them with any party beyond the analysis services listed above.
4. Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us. Uploaded photos are processed in memory and are not stored beyond your session unless explicitly saved.
5. Cookies and local storage
Aperture22 uses browser local storage to save your session token and theme preference. We do not use third-party tracking cookies.
6. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Contact us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will notify you of material changes via the email address on your account.
8. Your content and ownership
Your photographs, edited images, notes, safari plans, and all other content you create within Aperture22 remain your intellectual property. We do not claim ownership of your images or creative work.
When you upload images for analysis, they are processed by our AI analysis services (see Third-party services above) solely for the purpose of providing coaching and scoring feedback. Your images are not used to train AI models, are not shared publicly, and are not sold to third parties.
You may delete your images and account data at any time through your profile settings or by contacting us at hello@aperture22.ai.
